Welcome to File Requests

This page is a forum for requesting files from other Commons users for pages in Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia articles. Recent sections with no replies for 180 days and sections tagged with {{section resolved|1=--~~~~}} may be archived; for old discussions, see the archives.

Please help translating this page!

Adding a request[edit]

  • First, try to find a file on your own (see help on public domain image resources.)
  • For a file of a specific location, it may be possible to contact someone near to the location and request that they take a photo. The nearest photographer tool can help to locate users who are near to specific locations.
  • Link to a page where you want the image to be placed.
  • If possible, include an external link to a picture about the request.
  • Sign your request in case there are questions (use ~~~~).

Gare de Masson[edit]

The former train station in Masson, Qc suffered a roof failure this past spring due to snow accumulation and will be demolished. It would be interesting to have someone document the final condition of the station for use on Wiki projects before the demolition takes place. Sandvine[edit]

I would like to request an image of the logo for the company Sandvine. Preferably with "SANDVINE" written to the right, as seen on their website, but no text is also fine. I would like to use it in the infobox on this Wikipedia article. FreeToDisagree (talk) 12:54, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:FreeToDisagree hello do you happen to be from sweden? have you tried to look up some local photography group in malmö?
och fråga noen om et bild av kontoret til sandvine. även möjlighet at kontakta tidningen i malmö --Mathias -Ahoy (talk) 07:34, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, and thank you for your suggestions. I do speak swedish, however, that might be a bit out of my comfort zone. I will consider it though. FreeToDisagree (talk) 16:44, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Parliament Building (Quebec)[edit]

The article on Wikipedia is in need of the following images:

  • Zoom on the the new entrance to the National Assembly of Quebec (post-2019);
  • Zoom on the fountain of Abenaki (fontaine des Abénaquis) after 2019. Note. The fountain is the one closest to the building, not the one on the roundabout of the Honoré-Mercier avenue, which is the one extensively photographed.

Thank you in advance. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 13:09, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Images for the new main category Category:Pictograms on things[edit]

I have created a new category Category:Pictograms on things for images of pictograms applied on things in everyday life or special/professional applications. A few examples out of many millions in the world: Play-Symbol (Arrow) on CD/DVD/BluRay/MP3 Players, washing symbols in garment, symbols on all switches/knobs in cars, etc. Surprisingly, there were only categories for the depictions of those pictograms themselves (purely), but not for those applied in 'real life'. I made about 10 sub categories already and filled in a lot of files both newly taken by me and cropped from existing files, but there are about 99.9 % of all those existing pictograms still missing (joking). So I want to encourage to take photographs of such pictograms - which is both interesting and surprising, once you see that these little symbols are present virtually everywhere. New sub categories also very welcome, of course. Pittigrilli (talk) 09:06, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Degrassi actors[edit]

I am looking for freely licensed photographs of the following Degrassi actors:

And better quality images of these actors:

I have gone around attempting to ask other people, including actors involved in the franchise and other image copyright holders, but have either received no response, or a blunt denial of permission. If anyone has been at a public event and taken photos of these actors and are willing to upload them freely licensed that would be greatly appreciated. Clifton Urban Forest[edit]

Hey there, I'm looking for a picture of the Clifton Urban Forest, an urban forest currently being planted and built at Clifton, Karachi. Could someone kindly get a photo of it (preferably with the rows of saplings in the photograph)? Thanks. RealKnockout (talk) 22:38, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Soyuz MS-19[edit]

Since the Soyuz MS-19 will be the first completely Russian mission since Soyuz TM-30, would be nice to have some free licensing images from the full crew in general and Klim Shipenko in specific, since the Roscosmos images (prime/backup) are copyrighted. I'm asking because I'm not sure if some NASA photographer would release anything from a full Russian crew, also considering the pandemic still going on. Thanks, Erick Soares3 (talk) 22:04, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dogor[edit]

Hi everyone. Could somebody find an image of Dogor that can be uploaded here? I tried to find one with a free license, but I was out of luck. Maybe someone with more experience will be able to find it.

There used to be a photo on commons (File:W6ODPAAVAII6VAGW2DFHABZHH4.jpg) but it was removed because it was missing permission.

Thank you in advance!

Susan Tolsky[edit]

Hey everyone! I could use some help. I would really like to include a photo of the actress Susan Tolsky in her article. I'm not at all experienced with all this public domain stuff. Could this one be used? It has no copyright markings on the back and it was taken in 1972 or 1973. I would really appreciate some help, thanks! PancakeMistake (talk) 11:56, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Quite possible that it can be used. Ruslik (talk) 07:39, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Wincott, Bob Gunton, and David Dastmalchian[edit]

Notable actors Michael Wincott, Bob Gunton, and rising star David Dastmalchian need photos for their respective articles. I've done my best to search, but I cannot find any under acceptable licenses.. Edit: I did find a high school photo of Bob Gunton (https://i1.wp.com/www.entertainmentwise.com/wp-content/uploads/index1-481.jpg?fit=210%2C240&ssl=1), which is more than likely Public Domain, from where he attended Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, California, but I can't find the specific yearbook it's from for free online. Derich Berck by Hans Holbein from Google Arts and Culture[edit]

Hi. Google Arts and Culture has a very high resolution version of the painting we have at a much lower resolution as File:Derich Berck, by Hans Holbein.jpg. I don't know how to download them, but many of these Google-scanned art pieces are on here at Category:Gigapixel images from the Google Art Project; if someone could get this painting at extremely high resolution onto Commons in the proper way that would be great (I would love to know how you're supposed to do this too please). Thanks, DemonDays64 (talk) 08:04, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you are on holiday in Yumurtalık could you take a picture of the construction of Emba Hunutlu power station?[edit]

If you are nearby it would be great if you could take a picture of the only coal-fired power station under construction in Turkey and hopefully the last Chidgk1 (talk) 10:21, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for photograph of Abel Landén's villa on Iso Vasikkasaari[edit]

The article w:Iso Vasikkasaari mentions "probably the most unusual building in Espoo", a private villa commissioned by banker Abel Landén, resembling a Greek temple to the god Poseidon. However neither the article or the Finnish article it was translated from contain any picture of this villa. There should be one to illustrate what is so unusual about this building.

The villa itself cannot be visited just like that as it's a private building on private property. An exterior photograph taken from a passing boat or ship will suffice just fine.

The coordinates for the island as a whole can be found in the article: https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Iso_Vasikkasaari&params=60_8_24_N_24_45_40_E_

The villa itself is in the extreme northwestern corner: https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Iso_Vasikkasaari&params=60_8_34.6_N_24_45_27.5_E_

Réunion hotspot animation[edit]

I have come to read two articles in geophysics by Quanta Magazine each containing a great interactive animation of a geological structure accompanying the text, the respective wikipedia article for one of these structures has similar animation but not the article for the other one which contains only a image of a volcano but not of the relevant geological structure so an animation would greatly help illustrate that article.

Large low-shear-velocity provinces quanta magazine wikipedia
Réunion hotspot quanta magazine wikipedia (no animation)

-The animation for the Large low-shear-velocity provinces in wikipedia was uploaded by a user who hasn't been active since 2017

-The animation of the Réunion hotspot in quanta magazine was created with sketchfab

Boojum pattern on Helium-3[edit]

The article Boojum (superfluidity) is about a visual pattern which arises in physics but contains no image and google only gives results related with boojums patterns in liquid crystals for which the article on them has plenty of images but I can't find one for Helium-3 (copyleft or copyright) which is as the text explain where term was coined, the closest is reference 3 by David Mermin which contains some drawings.

Picture of a well hatch on a ship[edit]

Hello! I am looking for a picture similar to shown in this article. The picture is taken on a wellship / live fish carrier. The picture is showing the well hatch / well cover.

Thanks! Vasmar1 | Marius Vassnes (talk) 12:01, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Vasmar1. I may be able to work up a line illustration for this. Is there a particular article or context where you would like it to be included? Do you need something that shows just the hatch, or something that illustrates the location of the hatch in a vessel? Red Roan (talk) 01:57, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Red Roan. Thanks for getting in touch with me. I was looking for a picture similar to what was shown in the article i linked to, for an article on the nowiki. The picture was going to be used as an illustration of a well hatch, because the article mentions something about an accident that occurred on one of the vessels, where a crew member died because of a failure in the hatch's hydraulics. I needed the picture for this and this article, however it would be useful for other articles as well, as there are many missing pictures related to the wellship / fish carrier industry on commons. Thanks! Vasmar1 | Marius Vassnes (talk) 11:52, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarifying, @Vasmar1. I will work up a technical line drawing of one of the hydraulically operated well hatches shown in the photo. I realize it may not be exactly what you were looking for. Whether it enhances the particular wiki articles you had in mind or not, we can at least have one such illustration on hand. This will take a few days. I will reply with a link to the drawing in this thread when I'm done. Red Roan (talk) 05:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again @Vasmar1. Please see this illustration: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wellboat-hatch.svg, and please let me know what you think. Thanks again. Red Roan (talk) 07:42, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! This is great! I will use this in the Rostein article, and the norwegian article about wellships ,that i am currently working on. Thanks! Vasmar1 | Marius Vassnes (talk) 09:58, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Vasmar1 Great! I'm glad this image can help. For your information, I just updated it to include a white background so it will be more clear in the full-size view. Thanks again. Red Roan (talk) 15:07, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sharon Duncan-Brewster[edit]

We need an image of Sharon Duncan-Brewster for her BLP and for Liet-Kynes, a role she recently played. This or this look appropriate. Can someone contact the IG account with the relevant details for release into WC? François Robere (talk) 09:34, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Hadley Black History Museum, Thomasville, Georgia[edit]

I'd like a usable pic of this place for WP-use [1], please. Just the sign like at [2] would work, but I'd like to see more of the building. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:25, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alina Butaeva[edit]

We have forty pictures of this figure skater, not one of which actually shows her skating. It would be nice to have one. Brianjd (talk) 11:05, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cate Fleming[edit]

Another figure skater with plenty of pictures, but no picture of her actually skating. Can we get one? Brianjd (talk) 11:09, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Footballers' new photos[edit]

Some of the articles about footballers have old pictures of them and I request new photos for footballers like Jesus Vallejo, Andriy Lunin, Eder Militao, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by YBE11 (talk • contribs) 08:18, 11 December 2021‎ (UTC)[reply]

Arterial line, inserted[edit]

I was unable to find any free-license photos of a properly inserted arterial line, such as here. The Wikipedia page on the topic itself only shows the catheters. Lrkrol (talk) 15:23, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Lrkrol. Please take a look at this illustration and add it to the relevant Wikipedia page if appropriate: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Inserted_arterial_line.svg Red Roan (talk) 15:11, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again @Lrkrol. Please see my previous reply in this thread. (I forgot to @ you.) Red Roan (talk) 01:55, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Red Roan! It looks good to me, although it is rather flat: the figure could be interpreted as if the whole catheter is stuck to the skin, just like (and even below) the dressing. Would it be possible to make this clearer, perhaps more 3D? Lrkrol (talk) 10:51, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Lrkrol. I just uploaded a PNG alternative with a bit more shading and detail, particularly around where the needle enters the skin. Please let me know what you think. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arterial-line-shaded.png Red Roan (talk) 22:03, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again @Red Roan, that looks very good. I have added it to the Wikipedia page linked earlier, and will be using it in my lecture next semester on blood pressure measurements. Could you still make the PNG background transparent, and perhaps crop the negative space from the top and bottom? Lrkrol (talk) 13:13, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great @Lrkrol! I'm glad this image can be of use. I just updated it with the requested changes. Please let me know if I can do anything else for this. Red Roan (talk) 21:08, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Better quality of The Music Man poster[edit]

Hello! I uploaded File:The Music Man poster, 1957.jpg which I am pretty confident is PD to replace enwiki's photo and it's not horrific but it is still pretty compressed and has a watermark, both of which I imperfectly have tried to clean up a bit. I am wondering if anyone can find a better scan of the poster? Thanks! DemonDays64 (talk) 02:06, 1 January 2022 (UTC) (please ping on reply)[reply]

  • @DemonDays64: Hi! I am trying to restore your image using certain techniques, so I have a couple of questions for you:
    • Were the lines on the poster originally "broken", or they need to be full?
    • Are there any points on the original poster that were lost by the compression?

Answer if you are able, and sorry for any grammar mistakes in questions - english is not my native language.

Best regards, Dimljacic (talk) 20:55, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Finnish Continuation War commemorative medals[edit]

I've been working through the Finnish army corps of the en:Continuation War (see e.g. en:Finnish III Corps (Continuation War) and en:Finnish VI Corps (Continuation War)). As far as I can tell, these units did not have dedicated shoulder patches (such as those used by e.g. en:X Corps (United States)) which makes it difficult to find good imagery for the infoboxes. What these corps have, instead, are commemorative crosses such as the Aunuksen risti of the VI Corps (as shown in this CC-BY-ND image) or the Pohjois-Vienan risti of the III Corps (shown in this CC-BY-ND image). Since the no derivatives licenses prevent me from using these otherwise excellent images, I'm asking for help in sourcing Commons-compatible versions. Further non-free references can be browsed on e.g. this website. Thanks, -Ljleppan (talk) 09:17, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jesenice (Dugi Rat)[edit]

Good evening, I'd like to request a photo of Jesenice in Croatia. It's a quite big tourist resort, but there are absolutely no free domain photos anywhere. It's located in Dugi Rat municipality between Split and Omiš - this area is really poor for any pictures, as you can see in neighboring resorts Dugi Rat and Duće. But they at least have some pictures; Jesenice doesn't have any. Here is the location. I would be really grateful if you had any picture from this area. Moson81 (talk) 17:55, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've requested Flickr user Linda 2409, she was really kind and gave me a permission to use this file. Therefore, this file request is solved. Moson81 (talk) 16:45, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
